Disclaimers
The important stuff. Please read.
This is not gospel.
This document reflects my opinions - but that doesn't make them gospel. Every family is different, and each path into parenthood is uniquely personal.
What worked for us may not work for you. What didn't work for us might be perfect for your family. Take what's useful, leave what isn't, and trust your instincts.
If I could share one piece of advice, it would be this:
- Trust your instincts.
- Be kind to yourself.
- Be kind to other parents.
Medical Disclaimer
This website is not medical advice.
The information provided on Reid's Baby Breakdown is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Always seek the advice of your physician, pediatrician, or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition or your child's health. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have read on this website.
If you think you or your child may have a medical emergency, call your doctor or emergency services immediately.
Specifically:
- Sleep advice: Consult your pediatrician before implementing any sleep training methods. Safe sleep guidelines from the AAP should always be followed.
- Feeding advice: Breastfeeding and formula decisions should be made with your healthcare provider. Every baby is different.
- Product recommendations: Safety standards change. Always check current safety guidelines and recalls before using any baby product.
- Medication references: Any mention of medication (Tylenol, Motrin, etc.) is not a recommendation to administer. Consult your pediatrician for dosing and appropriateness.
Affiliate Disclosure
Some links on this site are affiliate links.
This means that if you click on a link and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.
What this means:
- I only recommend products I have personally used and believe in.
- My opinions are not for sale. The recommendation comes first; affiliate relationships come after.
- Many products I recommend (like the IKEA crib) have no affiliate program at all - I recommend them because they're good.
- Affiliate income helps support the time it takes to maintain this site, but it does not influence my recommendations.
How to identify affiliate links:
Affiliate links are typically to Amazon, specific brand websites, or other retailers. If you're ever unsure, assume a product link may be an affiliate link.
Bottom line: I won't recommend something I don't believe in just because it has an affiliate program. And I will recommend things that don't have affiliate programs if they're the best option.

Update Log
Part of being honest is admitting when things change. Here's a log of significant updates to the site content.
Why we do this
We explicitly publish when we change our minds. Information evolves. Products get discontinued. Better options come along. We'd rather update our recommendations than leave you with outdated advice.

Things We've Changed Our Minds About
These are documented in detail in Field Notes: Things I Changed My Mind About, but here's the summary:
- Epidurals: Had "no epidural" energy. Had an epidural. Recommend it.
- Formula: Initially hesitant. Now use it strategically (last feed of the day). The stigma is not useful.
- Pacifiers: Was worried about them. Now know they help with self-soothing and are associated with reduced SIDS risk.

One more thing
This site exists because I wish it had existed when I was starting out. It's imperfect. It's opinionated. It's one family's experience.
But it's honest. And that's the best I can offer.
If something on here helps you, I'm glad. If something doesn't apply to your situation, that's okay too. Take what works, leave what doesn't.
You've got this.
